Well, not exactly wasting. Yes, I've been busy with teaching, working on extra money-making writing jobs, and mothering and all the stuff that goes along with it. I have fallen off the every day writing track regarding the novel, but I have been spent a lot of time thinking about the characters and the essential qualities I want the book to have. I've also been needling myself about another book I wish to write after this one, a mystery-thriller set in the United Arab Emirates (where I live and teach English) and Sri Lanka, but that's a blog for next year. I write down ideas so that they're not lost forever and try to keep the feelings and thoughts that revolve around the historical fiction close to me. The short-term money-making writing job is about to finish in a week, and after that I intend to get back to the business of writing the historical novel. It's a little worrisome that I've abandoned this project for so long. And I can see that this finishing this book by the end of this year is going to be one hell of a difficult challenge, but I'm certain that the ideas will flow again and that I'll be able to maneuver them to their proper places. It's late. One baby is in bed, another is on the couch asleep with a fever. Time to tuck him into bed.
